  • Dr. Marla Saltzman
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
    Dr. Marla Saltzman was born and raised on the East Coast. She attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for her undergraduate degree, and went on to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis in 1991. Dr. Saltzman returned to San Diego and spent the majority of her career at a progressive, small animal general medicine and surgery specialty practice. She further enjoyed practicing in North County and in Downtown San Diego, until fulfilling her dream to open her own vet hospital. In 2013, she proudly opened Amici Pet Hospital of Little Italy, and couldn’t be happier to bring her vision of excellence in pet care to our community. Dr. Saltzman brings with her 25 years of veterinary experience, and her professional interests include internal medicine, dermatology, dentistry, and general surgery.

  • Dr. Scott Lafey
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
    Dr. Scott Lafey grew up in Maui, HI. He earned his Bachelor Degree of Science from UCLA and his Doctorate Degree of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis. He then completed a rotating internship focusing in Emergency Medicine, Surgery, and Internal Medicine at Veterinary Specialty hospital here in San Diego. When he is out of the office, he enjoys surfing, basketball, rock climbing, playing music, and going to the dog beach with his pup, Ziggy.

    Kim Fritz
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

    Dr. Kim Fritz was born in Ontario, Canada and attended McGill University, where she majored in Physiology. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from University of Montreal in 2015 and went on to an internship at Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego, California. Her professional interests include internal medicine and dentistry.

  • Dr. Tracey Hayes
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

    Dr. Hayes is excited to call Amici Pet Hospital her new home and looks forward to working with you and your furry family.
    Originally from Ohio, Dr. Hayes, her husband, and their menagerie of pets have been happy to call San Diego home since 2015. Dr. Hayes completed her undergraduate degree in philosophy and social work from the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University. Upon graduation she started volunteering at the local humane society, was drawn to veterinary medicine, and started working as a vet assistant. Dr. Hayes worked as a vet assistant for almost a decade before starting her veterinary studies at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine.
    Dr. Hayes likes working closely with families to understand the holistic picture of physical, behavioral and emotional health of the pet. Her professional interests include surgery and internal medicine. She is working towards her American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) general practice board certification and hopes to complete this in the next 2 years.
    She obtained both Fear Free and Human Animal Bond certifications, and is a Cat Friendly Practice advocate. She is USDA/APHIS accredited and a member of the following professional organizations: American Association of Feline Practitioners, International Society of Feline Medicine, American Veterinary Medical Association, California Veterinary Medical Association.
    In her free time Dr. Hayes enjoys running, biking, swimming and the occasional marathon/triathlon. She has recently started trail running and looks to combine this with adventure vacationing. She also loves all things music, movies and a great book.

  • Dr. Heather Powers
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
    Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

    Dr. Powers grew up in upstate New York, and she instantly knew from a young age that she wanted to be a vet. She loved the wildlife and had the pleasure of being around some farm animals as well as dogs and cats. In addition to her favorite dogs and cats, she had horses, goats, geese, rabbits and chickens. 

    She obtained an Associates in Animal Science from State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi and a Bachelors of Science from Cornell University. She worked as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) both in the laboratory animal science
    department at SUNY College of Technology at Delhi, as well as in general practice prior to veterinary school. 

    She went on to achieve her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts in 2005.
    She made her way to the West Coast with acceptance and completion of a 1 year rotating internship in small animal internal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, and oncology at a private specialty referral hospital in the East San Francisco Bay Area. She worked in the Bay Area doing emergency medicine, general practice, and did high volume spay/neutering in the shelters.

    She came to San Diego in 2010 and has continued working in small animal private practice, doing relief work, urgent care, and loves dentistry and surgery.
    She would love to treat your furry loved one and offer the best care possible. She lives with her ‘special’ Border Collie Bobbi, and wants to do more traveling of the world!
